Taekwondo began to develop in the late 1960s and early 1970s when Korean masters gave their first seminars. The first taekwondo clubs were founded in Zagreb (1969), Karlovac (1969), Pula (1970), Bjelovar (1970), Split (1970), Slavonski Brod (1974), Rijeka (1977), etc. The Croatian Taekwondo Federation was founded in 1971, and national championships have been held since 1980. The Croatian Taekwondo Federation has been a member of the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) since 1993.
Croatian taekwondo athletes have won 6 Olympic medals, of which 1 has been gold, 32 medals at the world championships, of which 5 have been gold, and 63 medals at the European championships, of which 16 have been gold.
